From 1995 through 2012, a time of dramatically intensified policing of U.S. territorial boundaries by federal authorities, the remains of over 6,000 migrants were recovered in the U.S.-Mexico borderlands. This made for an average of almost one recovered body—in whole or in part—per day over the 18-year period.
There were also at least hundreds of additional deaths in other “crossing” areas such as the Caribbean. There, a high number of would-be immigrants from the Dominican Republic have drowned or have been eaten by sharks while trying to enter Puerto Rico without authorization in order to settle there or to board a flight to the United States free of immigration controls.
In both relative and absolute terms, the number of migrant deaths brought about by environmental factors, especially extreme heat, has also increased since the mid-1990s. Along the U.S.-Mexico boundary, exposure today appears to be by far the most common cause of death. At the same time, greater numbers of fatalities are taking place in fairly remote areas as migrants cross in increasingly isolated zones to avoid detection by the ever-larger enforcement web throughout the border region

@sambam72 @sambam72 that’s what I thought, sweetheart. Since you look like you have very little real life experience, I suggest you educate actually yourself on what your responding to. I’m willing to bet, you don’t even know what the Vietnam war is. (The link I sent yesterday). Check out history channels “warfighters”. Episode 2, it’s about the most recent Afghanistan war, that we are still fighting. Imagine yourself there. Then ask yourself if that’s comparable to “being in a cage”. Then imagine coming home and trying to erase the images of seeing your friends being blown up and shot down. Veterans are living in a cage every single day, being held hostage to their memories and trauma.
Oh and your the troll. When you respond to people, say something of actual value.
I DARE YOU!

If they close where do those people go? Everyone wants easy answers. As long as the worlds population grows so fast and people live longer the problems will only get worse. The wall would decrease the need for these kind of camps. But that would be just another Band-Aid on the problem. I think they should be returned to their country the same day they are caught. But I also find that people want the situation fixed are willing to complain and make jokes about our government. Those same people are not willing to put their money where there mouth is. Send supplies to the camps to make it less like a prison. Sponser families so more could qualify for Visa's. Run for office. Do something constructive instead of ranting. Our country is fracturing from all the hate.

@jbirdy1204 I have not made assumptions about you because I am not trying to argue you as a person, but the points being made. The point I was making is there are three major items the government funding goes into 1 is mandatory payments (VA, SSA, etc) 2 is the country’s debt and 3 is allocated by bills passed each year, in which other things like housing, defense, etc are paid from. My point was a person can support the detention camps being removed and support the humane treatment of refugees and immigrants without taking anything away from major programs in America. A person can and should support many causes that are geared to bettering the life of others. One group of people does not deserve more of our respect than any other.

@jbirdy1204 declaring something false doesn’t make it so. Certain funds go to certain places. THAT is how it works. We can debate how they should be spent but budget items have existed since governments have. Now if you’re talking about eliminating budget items to shore up others, that’s another debate with much bigger implications. That makes everything fair play. You think we should look at defense spending to supplement infrastructure? Eliminate the Post Office to shore up education? Also, quick question, since you’re fired up about spending government funding on our own citizens: when was the last time you personally were in favor of supporting a social program?

@momma_elise excautly, because the news outlets are bias towards which party owns them (donates money, etc..) and people only read a headline and create their own opinion off it instead of actually getting educated. Then, there are celebrities like @busyphilipps that perpetuates the cycle but won’t actually report the actual facts & don’t actually do anything of value towards it. -Busy, I saw your testimony and you didn’t accomplish anything of value.
