What do you see here?! Let me tell you what I see, two beautiful, charismatic, fun loving & young people who should have had the world at their feet & their whole lives ahead of them. Instead, they left this world all too soon not knowing just how loved they were.
Now I haven’t managed to catch any of this year’s @loveisland- I’ve barely been in the country since it started. But I still read the news, follow the fan accounts, & my group chats still go off everytime it’s on... what I’m saying is it is impossible to avoid the reality tv juggernaut. I just want to say I think the show is great- & I’m friends with so many of the ex islanders who I love alot. But today I made the mistake of reading some people’s comments on social media when I couldn’t sleep & I’m not going to lie I was both shocked & saddened by what I read.
Regardless of who your favourite is on this show, who you ‘ship’, who you want to win, if you’re mad that someone’s left, or angry someone stayed, no matter what you actually may think or be saying in your group chat with your mates I urge you to be more mindful across social media. Have we not witnessed the detrimental and irreversible affect our thoughtless words and reckless opinions can have on someone’s mental health?! Why are people still attacking these islanders with such verbal vitriol?! Do you know them personally?! Of course not! Have they done anything to warrant it?! No way. Are they human?! YES! These people are no different to you and me and they have feelings and these hateful comments with have ramifications we can’t even begin to understand.
It’s so ludicrous to me that after everything that’s happened this past year I’m still having to urge people to be kind but here we are. We have lost too many people and I know this isn’t confined to the world of reality tv. Through the callous words of individuals, online hate and cyber bullying we are breaking people, destroying them and it has to stop. Think before you type. Your words have gravity.
Please be better than this internet culture of hate. Do not allow it to breed. Be kind, be compassionate. Be human ♥️ Let’s put the ‘love’ back in ‘love island’ for Sophie & Mike 💔

The thing that has struck me this year (I say this year, I’ve never watched it before - far too much of a tv snob ?) is that each person has been hand picked by ITV because they already have a social media/media presence. It’s like ITV have therefore assumed that they are fair game in their quest to seek fame and therefore deserving of the backlash. I’m sure most have busy instagram accounts but up until now will never have received too much negativity as followers would have followed for genuine reasons. I hope they all see the program for what it is and find a healthy way to navigate the endless negativity they are likely to encounter from now on in. I’m so pleased all this wasn’t around when I was young(er). My biggest worry was what would happen if someone (a guy!!) called my house phone and I was out and had no way of knowing. Hahaha!

I feel bad for anyone that ever feels so low that they have to kill themselves. But celebrities got to stop trying to play victim. People are desperate to be on TV and reap the benefits of everything that comes with it but don’t want any of the disadvantages, which includes public scrutiny. If you are not mentally strong enough to cope with the downsides of fame, you shouldn’t put yourself in that position. Celebrities need to take some individual responsibility for themselves and the fact that they put themselves in that position in the first place. Get an office job if you don’t want the public criticising your every move

It is not impossible to avoid the reality tv juggernaut, it’s actually very easy and comes naturally to the majority of people - the ones who don’t give a crap about all this superficial crap. What is our society coming to, people putting themselves out there for what ?? And then receiving a truck load of abuse for it and they are not equipped to deal with it. So don’t get into that Sad crap in the first place. Have some self respect !

were they both not found to have cocaine and other drugs in their system ? this leads to depression i dont feel the show is to blame people that go on the show go on it for fame not love bullying on line obviously makes people paranoid etc but they dont stay off these pages because they also make them famous, so sad they were so young.

Working in Suicide intervention and prevention one of the biggest contributor in suicide within young men and women is ‘Cocaine’ use before there Suicide , sadly both had cocaine in there system. We are reaching crisis point in the UK with this issue!! Just feel this needs to be highlighted too!!

Well said @vickypattison the world needs to stop being so high and mighty on social media and start bringing each other up instead of down. Mental health is an epidemic and we need to support each other. No one deserves to slandered relentlessly #bekind #havecompassion
