He was a chef turned author, food anthropologist, and television star, and, in later years, an activist, revered elder statesman, and an overt and uncompromising figure of moral authority. Our food correspondent @helenr remembers asking him, just after Donald Trump’s election, if he was a feminist. He talked around the answer. robyn_nichol I think it was more than depression! I suspect he was bipolar and his energy and creativity was from the manic episodes always followed by a depression that is so awful it's hard to describe. I think he was a wonderful person who suffered a great deal and was finally exhausted . He lit a fuse somewhere and then it was on and there was no taking it back. It was simply as far as he could go! Who says we have to live for as long as we can just to end up in some hideous care facility choking on our food and wasting away so people can say he lived until he was 90! He just ran out of fire ? but he has left a wonderful legacy a daughter wives who loved him and an attempt to travel the world and understand it through food and the people whose lives touched him and then us ! I just want to thank him for all the hours of entertainment and knowledge that he dug out and then shared In his own words he said it was as though he had stolen a bike and sooner or later he was going to get caught and give it back! What a ride !

thomaschudalla @thebenm if you are getting tired of your own voice you can try to express yourself with art, painting, photography, music, dance etc. sometimes words have limits to get rid of the pain inside. writing everything down might even increase the suffering about the subjects you have written (that´s why writing not always works as self therapy). sometimes making music helps more. but that´s just my personal experience.

beatnikguy @slatington2334 my point was he suffered from major depression and in a bout where was losing the battle he made a decision he might not otherwise have taken. I have nothing but respect and appreciation for the guy and saddened by his loss. Often times in deep depression you suffer from imposter syndrome.
