"Frutta Martorana”, marzipan fruits made with almond flour and sugar, was traditionally prepared in the festivities of remembrance of the dead. The name “Martorana” is derived from the church, “Chiesa di Santa Maria dell’Ammiraglio, o della Martorana”. According to tradition, these fruit sweets were originally created by monastery nuns who would use them to replenish the real fruits collected, in time for the Pope’s visit. #DGSicily62
