I raise my girls to love and respect the great outdoors, but I wonder what the world will be like 20-30 years from now. Will our future generations still be able to enjoy the beautiful blue skies, lush green fields and crisp fresh air?
Being able to see the world, embrace new cultures, and experience beautiful places as a family is a great privilege, but it also comes with great responsibility - the carbon footprint we leave behind is increasingly harming the planet we love. So how do we fly but emit less?
Some say we should stop flying. We say stop the #flightshaming. We do not believe that is a solution. Keeping perspective, tourism creates jobs and trade connectivity which are crucial for developing nations. As advocates of family travel, it broadens our kids’ minds and enables them to embrace diversity and different cultures. Of course, we are not perfect, there are times we could have made better choices, but I believe that if we continually keep ourselves better informed of the options we can take to make a difference, we can all make a conscious effort to travel more sustainably.
Sharing how we can all fly cleaner in our next post!

@leialauren I applaud you, for many reasons... the way you're raising your children to be kind and thoughtful inhabitants of our planet, your willingness to share your beautiful family and adventures with the rest of us, your desire to do what you can to make the world a better place, the way you always maintain your composure, even when some post nasty comments... I had a response for miss nasty pants, complete with research to disprove her allegations, but decided to follow your lead and take the high road... Congratulations on your pregnancy! Im so excited to watch your lovely family grow and continue to discover the wonders of the world! ☺

@erikawas you’re absolutely right! That being said, it was a bit harsh and unkind to formulate it this way. I do believe that encouraging people who care and congratulate them on the effort they do (even how small they are in comparison to your “standards”) is a better way to develop good habits. It’s true that flying is the worst, but choosing airlines that offer to compensate the CO2 emission if you don’t have any other alternative is better than just not doing it. As for the child comment I won’t go into it now, cause it’s a whole different subject.

@erikawas pls unfollow @leialauren if you intend to be pessimistic netizen. They can afford it and while they do, it's their choice to do whatever they want. So what if they are sponsored or not. You think their parents were born yesterday and that they did not know the pros and cons of flying? Pls bring your 'lecture' elsewhere. If you indeed from an environmental company, what are u doing on IG? You should be active out there reaching out knocking on companies rather than active on social media. Social media is not environmental friendly either.

@erikawas “people in the first world” - actually it’s only certain demographics in the first world which produce more then the global average. Both me and my wife belong to demographics that have statistically low birth rates. Overpopulation isn’t coming from our end and we have the technology available to be greener. We’re planning on having a child. Instead of being viciously judgemental I would like you to consider the fact my wife comes from a background of constant struggle and poverty, so save it. Thanks.

@erikawas For the record I do see where you are coming from on the flying part. We fly once a year at most for a family visit. I think the page owner would do well in just admitting the amount they fly is a huge privilege and that pointing out the environmental cost isn’t shaming. My cousin would agree. Same cousin who had a six figure salary working for BHP. Your words about having kids stung a lot, but if you knew our background you’d understand why. I’m not attacking you.

@hortiiie Agree and that’s exactly the message here. We are not holier-than-thou and not teaching people how to live their lives- travel, procreation, diet and transport. Everyone on this planet has a carbon footprint. But with our little voice, we can choose to sit back and do nothing or be positive and share little steps on how we, in our own individual way (lifestyle choices aside), travel more sustainably with the current options available.
