#OTD in 1837, Queen Victoria ascended to the throne at the age of 18.

This painting by Henry Tanworth Wells from the @RCT shows the moment Queen Victoria learnt of her accession.

Her reign lasted until 22 January 1901 and was known as the Victorian Era.

Queen Victoria and her husband Prince Albert produced nine children between 1840 and 1857. Most of them married into other Royal families of Europe.
