Today the world lost one of the greatest human beings I’ve ever had the pleasure of calling a friend or getting to know. Philippe Zdar, one half of the incredible French group @cassius passed in a freak accident in Paris last night. He was a huge influence on me as a writer and producer as well as a producer/collaborator on our @onerepublic albums Native and Oh My My. For those of u who don’t know him- His group Cassius are one of the most influential acts ever to come out of France- Daft Punk, Justice, The Beastie Boys, Kanye West, Phoenix... all of them wouldn’t be the same without Philippe & Hubert - his best friend and partner in Cassius. But that was just music. ANYONE that has met or had the pleasure to know Philippe would describe him as “one of the most joyful & giving people they’ve ever met”. This man had a joy, passion and zeal for life that burned a tunnel in my memory and my life forever. He made an impression on me in 5 seconds. You know those people you meet or work with and think “if we lived in the same city we’d be best friends for life?”- that was Philippe for me. One of the greatest humans I’ve had the pleasure of knowing. When my band toured thru Paris or had a promo trip for years it always meant one thing: I get to hang out with Philippe and Hubert. I’ll never forget walking from his studio back to his apartment in Montmartre, Paris where he & his wife were making dinner and him getting stopped every 20 feet by someone, hugging him or yelling his name from a window- the man WAS Paris. My work with him & Hubert on their last album Ibifornia shook me- I couldn’t believe I was singing on Cassius songs - I was humbled and pinching myself. I still am. The other half of Cassius - Hubert - my friend, I am at a loss for words. You are the only person I’ve met as kind and giving as Philippe, u are one in a billion as a person & a creative and I cannot imagine the loss you are feeling right now. I am so sorry and know that I am thinking of you and your family and offer my utmost condolences. Love you man. To Philippe’s wife & kids - our hearts are broken for u forever. 💔」6月20日 18時11分
