I was alone, headlining, figuring out road comedy by myself, dating when I was home and really feeling that part of life where you make a go of it alone. She left me and it hurts so much. I feel guilty eating, smiling or posting pictures of anything other than her. But. Last night my husband snapped this picture of me during soundcheck. My husband, who’s been with me on this incredible Asia tour, was with me backstage before 800 Singaporeans I’d never met, but who knew me and loved Blanche, filled the theater. She left me with my life the fullest it has ever been. I have #smokeyhusky and a @emhig Baby Arm and business and on the road I have @huntersayswhat I have @0wasaw0 tour manager and (of course I have friends, i can’t tag everyone) and most importantly, I have you guys. Every night. Every city. I get to make thousands of you laugh and we have built a special bond. Yes you like my jokes and my stories, but it’s a bond Blanche helped build. Her little paws helped build my world around me. Her job was to make sure I wasn’t alone and she fulfilled that job in ways I couldn’t have imagined. It makes me cry because it’s so beautiful. She only knew one real “dog trick” and it was to give me her paw if she wanted a treat. I would tell her “you don’t have to know more, you’re too pretty to have to work.” But work she did work. Even if, at the very least, bringing me to the realization that love and support can come from people I’ve never met, I’m forever grateful for this life lesson. “Hello, I’m here to be your blessing” is what I always felt she was saying when she’d appear in a room, and she was.
