It was without a doubt the most physically demanding adventure of my life. I listened to music because I just didn't want to hear neither my own breathing nor the howling winds anymore. The sound of my shoe with the crampon and my crutches scraping and breaking through the ice was driving me mad as well. When we finally reached the top, everyone started screaming, grabbing and shaking me. The screaming turned to singing, and all the cameras were pointed at me. I wasn't prepared for this at all. But then, standing there, just wanting to be happy, I remembered why I did this in the first place. When I was eight years old, nobody told me what I could achieve, if I put my mind to it. And, nobody said that it would be possible for me to climb Kilimanjaro. Overcome by all these thoughts and feelings, I started sobbing like a little kid. Worse still, the spotlight was on me and everyone said: ‘Tom, say something, how do you feel?’ And all I was able to blurt out was: ‘I made it!".
