#ThrowbackThursday to the #TwinsStudy publication released in April. Was just @NASA for more post-flight medical & flight field tests. And finally got my copy! Some interesting results.

Like, how I’m now smarter & more handsome than my brother.

But also, three key findings related to gene expression changes, immune system response, and telomere dynamics.

NASA’s Twins Study was the first of its kind to study what physiological, molecular and cognitive changes could happen to a human from exposure to spaceflight through the genetic research of myself during my #yearinspace and my twin brother @shuttlecdrkelly who remained back on Earth.

We were pricked, prodded, scanned, x-rayed and eyeballed. And we donated on some rather intimate personal data. My brother had the hardest job. Because he was stuck on Earth while I had the privilege of flying in space for nearly a year.

Space is hard. The environment of space is hard too. Confinement, isolation, and exposure to environmental stressors such as microgravity, radiation, and noise make space a difficult place to be for a long period of time. If we want to go to Mars (which could take three years for a round trip) or anywhere farther, we need to understand how space effects the human body.

Thank you to #NASA for following through with the release of the study. So very intriguing and inspiring. I look forward to more studies and new information about humans in space!

moniemorales @stationcdrkelly I watched a video about those 3 major findings yesterday from your post and it seems even scarier now that there are these people creating ways to get the average person into space for fun. All while there is still work being done to find out what happens to the human body. The unknown is scary.
