I had been told about The Stairway To Heaven a few years back by locals of Heimaey in Vestmannyjaer & yesterday I confronted it & took it on. Climbing the assorted ropes, spikes & rusted ladder that hung precariously from the cliff, I felt like I was in an intense moment of an Indiana Jones film. Large ocean birds named Fulmars, but known locally as "Fishermen's friends" either swept past me from their perches or as a method of self defense, projectile vomited a mix of stinky orange & yellow puke. At one point navigating a tricky transition one puked at me from out of nowhere, luckily I didn't panic or lose my grip. Reaching the top I performed Ka mate Ka mate Ka ora Ka ora! Will I die or will I live - this time actually realizing the very meaning of these words. Truth be I dedicated this climb to my brother Stephen who died at age 21, after spending three years in a coma following a car accident. His favourite song which he played on his guitar was Stairway To Heaven. After I'd heard of this climb I dreamt about it a few times & in one dream fell, so completing it was part of a spiritual journey & a chance to honor my brother by completing the challenge of climbing The Stairway To Heaven #iceland #heimaey #vestmannjyaer #stairwaytoheaven」6月11日 22時52分
