The Queen and The Prince of Wales met D-Day veterans, Heads of State, Heads of Government and Representatives of Leaders of the Allied Nations at a National Commemorative Event held in Portsmouth today, marking the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day landings.

On 6 June 1944, Allied forces launched a combined naval, air and land assault on Nazi-occupied France, called ‘Operation Overlord’. 156,000 troops took part in the Allied landings on the Normandy beaches which marked the start of the campaign to liberate north-west Europe from German occupation.

After the event, The Queen bid a Formal Farewell to President Donald Trump, @ドナルド・トランプ, and Mrs Trump, @flotus, marking the official end of the #USStateVisit.
