It’s not clear how long he’s taken up residence there, but he’s already been on quite the journey. Bob is a 2.4 x 1.4cm HER2+ ductal carcinoma (ER+, PR-), an aggressive subtype of breast cancer that decided to cruise east and set up camp in my lymph nodes. An armpit seems like a rather undesirable location for a vacation, but Bob will soon realize that he is not welcome here. Next week will mark the start of Bob’s new journey: a 5 month-long relationship with chemotherapy and antibodies (GOAL: SHRINK BOB), then surgery (GOAL: REMOVE BOB), radiation + a year of “chemo light” (GOAL: BLAST BOB BITS IN THE BLOOD/BODY), followed by 5-10 years of estrogen blockers (GOAL: PREVENT BOB FROM RETURNING.) “Destroying Bob” has suddenly become my primary job. Apparently the pay sucks, the food is terrible, and there are no benefits…but I suppose not all new career paths are fun and fruitful. I wasn’t planning to announce my new gig so soon, and I actually feel quite nervous posting this...but quite frankly, it’ll be hard to hide a chest portacath, hair loss, and the inevitable impact on my work. So I figured a *mass (MASS!)* update would be easiest. And I have to say, when my friend @angelatrimbur began chronicling her breast cancer journey last year, I was amazed by her fortitude. Right after my diagnosis, I went back and re-read all of her posts, which really helped me prepare emotionally and logistically with tips that aren’t included in the “Cancer 101” booklet they give you at the hospital. So, thank you Angela for sharing your experiences, I can’t imagine how helpful your voice has been to anyone going through a cancer diagnosis <3 Anyway, I’ll do my best to give updates. If I’m not super responsive over email or text, I’m sorry. Bob’s been a bit of a time suck. ***sidenote: I don’t mean to offend any Bob’s out there. I’ve never met a Bob I didn’t like, it was just the first name that popped into mind (probably my obsession with Spongebob), and seemed like a rather friendly name for a tumor…which I think counts for something ❤ #breastcancer #her2positive #her2」6月5日 6時37分 - tarynsouthern
