I’m a former foster child that grew up in a foster home because after I was adopted my family did foster care until after I moved out of the house even . We had kids from hard places with lots of trauma, myself included . But a lot of us have gone on to be pretty successful . Due to being in a agency and working with the country my parents had like a circle of foster parent friends , all whom were amazing parents to their children . I myself am now a foster parent to my biological niece and nephew because my sister continued the cycle and we are 6 months from adoption ... my story is unique but I find that my truth is that not even close to all foster parents are bad and not all foster kids are set up to fail. A lot of people might disagree with me but past trauma and circumstances can cloud judgment and opinions. Of course you’ll find negative statistics if that’s all you’re looking for .

I'm happy that The Fosters exist it's a great show and helped me alot. I am a foster kid and soon to be adopted by my foster mom and I can say that being foster care helped me out alot with my mental state. When i was with my biological family it was really toxic and unhealthy. Sure it sucks that I'll never see my family again but if this show helped me understand anything it's that family is not just blood it's the people you love and i love my foster mom with all my heart! This show also gave me the courage to come out to my foster family as gay and that I'm really grateful. Thank You The Fosters.

As a former foster parent that was blessed to adopt 2 of my placements, I firmly believe that the system is broken and more needs to be done to help the innocent children placed in care. To be clear, the kids are NOT broken or damaged. They are a product of their environment and if they have any chance of overcoming what they've had to live through or undergo, they need to be in a more stable and positive environment. Does it take time? Yes. Is it hard on them and the foster parents? Yes. Can we do better as a society? Absolutely.

how does anyone base anything rather positive or negative on a fictional tv show. The Fosters and Good trouble arent based on true stories and neither is Orphan. And even if they were how to you censor someones creative freedom in film and entertainment? At the end of the day alot kids in foster have trauma/ issues. And alot kids are perfectly fine. The real issue is do you want adults that base their entire conception on foster kids off of tv shows to be raising kids? Answer: No.

The system is broken but you can’t expect a tv show to show all the good and bad that happens when in the system or even after you’re adopted. WE ARE NOT BROKEN AND WE ARE NOT DAMAGED. I’m sick of hearing how foster kids or kids in the system are broken and damaged. I was in the system and not because of anything I did, I didn’t go out and cause trouble and make a mess of everything. It’s about the environment we are put in.
