This week as we traveled in Alabama, I had the opportunity to visit the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery and must admit I was shaken. It is a memorial of terrorism in the United States of America and a monument to the memories of 4,400 African Americans who were lynched since Reconstruction. It is a memorial of the horrors of American history that we have got to understand. We cannot go forward if we sweep history under the rug.
