On my way to Chania in Crete to acknowledge the contribution of the Maori Battalion in WW2 toward the freedom of Greece. Over 200 New Zealand soldiers died in this battle paying the ultimate sacrifice for the Greek people, who were fighting for their lives & freedom from the Nazis. Many freindships remain from this episode in history & even some members of the Maori took Greek wives & combined our cultures. For this, Greek & Maori blood are forever united.
