In the early '90s, director John Singleton invited Veronica Chambers, @nytarchives editor, to join him on a location scout for "Poetic Justice." "Tupac, bored, decided to come,” she wrote. "John had a mixtape of classic soul songs and one of the songs he had featured in ‘Boyz [N the Hood],' 'O-o-h Child,' by the Five Stairsteps, came on.
