マット・マクゴリーさんのインスタグラム写真 - (マット・マクゴリーInstagram)「"Vanishing New York: How A Great City Lost Its Soul" by Jeremiah Moss ( @mossvanishingnewyork ) # Absolutely loved this book and if you love NYC, I can't recommend this enough. Was having dinner with @moustachemannyc in NYC when we happened upon a bookstore called "Unoppressive Non-Imperialist Bargain Books" which ended up being a fitting place for me to buy this book. # Growing up in Manhattan (in Chelsea), this book truly shifted much of my understanding of how the City has changed since I was a child. Yes, NYC is always changing, as Moss says, but what has taken place more recently has been more rapid and unlike any of the previous changes that NYC has seen due to numerous factors...but especially those in power catering to the extremely wealthy, real estate interests, and to corporations at any costs. # Moss is truly a talented writer and portrays the spirit of the City in a captivating way, mostly through his own stories and the stories of those that he has been in contact with through his work. It is these personal stories that patch together the depiction of the soul of the city in such a gripping and intimate way. A fabric that has been and is continuing to be rapidly torn apart as poor and working class people (and especially People of Color) are continuing to be displaced at alarming rates. This book both rekindled a deep passion for NYC and simultaneously made me angry at what has been and continues to take place. # On a sidenote, I went to preschool in the basement of the McBurney YMCA a few blocks from where I grew up (which has since become a few different gyms). It wasn't until reading this book that I learned that the Village People's YMCA song was based on the YMCA where I went to preschool. So much incredible history to be learned from this book. #VanishingNewYork #JeremiahMoss # My Booklist: bit.ly/mcgreads (link in bio) #mcgreads」5月16日 3時02分 - mattmcgorry
