When the synagogue shooting happened in San Diego a few days ago, I didn’t post anything about it. It weighed on my mind heavily but I wasn’t sure what to say. The hatred that some people feel towards Jews (or any religious group) has never made any sense to me and I wasn’t sure how to word a response that would be meaningful. Then I got a message from someone thanking me for just portraying Judaism in a normal every day light. She said that I was giving people, who might not know any Jewish people in real life, access to our traditions and holidays, and making them see that we were not so scary or different. Yes, I thought, that is something I can continue to do. So, today, on Holocaust Remembrance Day, here is a picture of Harlow at a recent birthday party, teaching her friends (most of whom are not Jewish) how to draw a Jewish star. She had just learned and was very excited about it. She explained that it has six points instead of five and it can be easily drawn with two triangles, one on top of the other. You see, Harlow is doing her part too.
