They’ve worked so hard for so long to get to this point, and now they’re making their families and communities proud by graduating. That's why for the past five years, as part of my @reachhigher initiative, I’ve been celebrating these students as a part of #CollegeSigningDay. And on Wednesday, I'll be @UCLA with a few friends to shine a spotlight on some of these amazing students who are investing in themselves through higher education. They include promising young people like Kayla Perez. Kayla's a soon-to-be graduate from El Rancho High School in California and will be the first person in her family to go to college this fall. Not only is she an editor on her school newspaper, captain on the Academic Decathlon team, and fluent in Spanish and Korean, she also works restaurant jobs to help support her family. Kayla’s hard work also helped her save up to study abroad in South Korea last year.
