We love our GPS as it’s handy and convenient, but I’ll still always carry an atlas too. I love maps and figuring out my own route to an unknown place. There’s something rewarding about the process, and it strengthens one’s sense of direction. Not to mention this one time, at band camp, I drove across the country with an atlas, directions written on receipt paper, and a boom box on the passenger side seat since the CD player was busted in my car, which was a little five speed who I lovingly referred to as the Mother Of Pearl. What a faithful resilient car she was, with endless stories in tow. I’m feeling the itch for another atlas-bound romp, with my love this time around, even if it’s just a day trip to a place we’ve never explored.
