I’ve never felt more deeply moved by the beauty and bounty of this earth until bringing a new life into it, what planet does he stand to inherit, I hope it’s not a lonely one, with so many of its inhabitants vanishing. I have this little book A California Bestiary and this sentiment has stuck with me ‘Animals are everywhere in our language, imaginations, dreams, and imagery but as the animals vanish from our lives and the earth these human things become poorer, flimsier...we need animals who are adapted to their own needs, not ours, in a world bigger than us.
