‘Centoventisei anni dopo’ - An interview by @chiaranonino with @tylersphotos about his upcoming monographic show titled ‘I Can Make You Feel Good’ on April 18th at @foam_amsterdam. Tyler Mitchell is a 24-year-old photographer who has made history, at least fashion history. In 2018, he was the first African-American photographer to shoot a #VogueUS cover in the magazine’s 126-year history. And it wasn’t just any cover. He shot the September issue featuring Beyoncé. ‘The title of the exhibition came about in a rather random way. It’s the title of an 80s Shalamar soul song and the show has no real connection to it but I thought it linked up with the optimistic kind of sentiment that I am going for in a lot of my work. I think that the early development of my aesthetic came a lot from the Internet. On Tumblr I was looking for youthful, feel-good images, like Larry Clark images of kids having fun or Ryan Mcginley and his road-trip pictures. But they were all white. The black version didn't seem to exist.’ #TylerMitchell
