Everyone has their own special connection to this landmark and Parisian icon no matter where they are in the world. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m struggling to find words to describe what we witnessed last night and all I can say is that it was absolutely heartbreaking to watch. I couldn’t believe my eyes. My heart aches for Paris, the people of France, anyone who calls this place home, and everyone who’s ever been touched by the beauty, art and history of Notre Dame. Thank you to the firefighters who must have worked tirelessly throughout the whole evening and night (and who are still there now) to save such an important part of Parisian history. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Everyone has their own story, photos and memories from the first time they laid eyes on the Notre Dame... And me? I count myself as lucky, having this treasure as my next door neighbour during the 5 years I spent on Île Saint Louis. I walked by this place on my way to the metro, the bus, when I went out for a little stroll just to stretch my legs or got to admire the cathedral when sitting at my favourite café at night, looking out over my favourite view in Paris... This has been my backdrop as I’ve cried, fallen in love, when I’ve been happy or when I’ve watched the spring blossom bloom every year since I first moved to Paris... It’s been the backdrop when I walked home after evenings out in the city, as I shared a first kiss and as my friends and I watched the sun set behind the Notre Dame while picnicking below.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It truly makes me realise that it’s so important to not take these places and this incredible (!) history that we get to lay our eyes on in the middle of the city everyday for granted. It stops me in my tracks nearly every single time and it will now remind me to stop even more often, take an extra minute and appreciate these historical and beautiful places all around the city even more than I ever did before ♥️」4月16日 21時57分
