@strange_invitation so, my heritage is French. It’s just a word, imaginary lines, remnants of feudalism and suffering. Why get so worked up over a building when the entire planet is on fire? Figuratively speaking of course. I think it’s hilarious when people freak out over objects rather than the people that died building it, slaved labouring in it, were sentenced to death by the church for heresy. Seems like people “love their neighbours”, houses, more than their neighbours. Exactly part of the worldwide diversion from real problems. To preserve anything for eternity is not only improbable but contradictory to every artistic expression of life. It ends. Everything has an end. You think it should all be preserved? Should we preserve portraits of dictators? The statue of Saddam Hussein? Memoirs of serial killers and rapists. Where’s the line?Anyway it’s already getting rebuilt. So again, maybe that 600 million euros could do something useful for France or the people who need help. The place is worth $30 billion. It’ll be fine.

@jdsparky83 actually I do think it's important to preserve the memory of history. Should we preserve a statue of Saddam Hussain? We probably should. We can change the context, of course, the narrative. Auschwitz is there to remind us of something that should never happen again. I don't know why you think that caring for buildings automatically means not caring for people, that wanting to save a beautiful building with ties to a long a complex history of the city excludes fighting for issues like climate change, poverty, migration, inequality. There are worse things people do with money than repairing a building, worse things to get indignant about. Trust me, I get angry too.

@josh.357 what i don't get is that most people seem to have their priorities fucked up. It's only a cathedral. What do we do about global warming? Just to name 1 thing that's more important and not taken care of. I totally get why one would be sad about whichever monument being destroyed. There was just a lot more focus than deserved on this nearly insignificant event. Zoom out.

The Spirit of Jesus is within your heart ? No need for buildings.... Just cry out to Abba Father where ever you are... ? He is our refuge. Amen~* ? Stay strong true believers!!* There is a rising wave of Spiritual warfare all around the world... God help us to overcome~* ?

@yannguillermou People still care about global warming, but when something this significant to history and culture is literally burning before our eyes, it’s easy to get distracted. Seriously, you don’t always have to be having an aneurism about the big issues.

@jdsparky83 sadness over Notre Dame - which belongs to all French people, not sure what you mean with 'white people icon'... and yes, I believe all historical artistic heritage should be preserved - does not exclude caring for the poor and the abused.
