I’ve been reading A Song of Ice & Fire since 2000 (#GoT for y’all who only watch), so when I saw @GeorgeRRMartin ALONE at a party at #SDCC in 2010, I took my shot & spoke w/him for AN HOUR. I asked him all the #GoT questions, but mostly- we spoke of #RobertJordan & #WheelOfTime bc that’s how I found #GoT, through a blog RJ had posted about his favorite fantasy books. Now that GoT has blown up like it has, I feel incredibly lucky to have that time with him, especially since we lost Robert Jordan whom he was very close to. George shared a few RJ stories that I will cherish. I’m sure George was equally surprised to see a very blonde, probably drunk girl in a #StarWars corset wearing fox ears be so excited to talk to him, as I was excited to see him ALONE at a party where he should have been the center of attention.
Thank you, George RR Martin for giving us this world that we can all love and share together in a time when our own world feels so divided. And thank you for popularizing my favorite genre and giving me millions of people to share my obsession with.

alinalovesbuffy Amazing story !!! He definitely deserves all the attention for sure! Snooping around insta last week, found a fan who found him all alone walking around the Iron Throne in NYC outside the Rockefeller Center. How is that even possible ? I regretted so much not going, I’d love to meet him like that ❤️

kxu65 @claregrant I was at the Con a few weeks before 9/11, where Jordan and GRRM only time met. It was my 1st Con, and went bc my friend really want us to read RJ bc he read it year before. Paid for me to go. But we didn't know GRRM yet.

the_aliephant Such a wonderful moment! The wheel of time was life changing for me as a kid: basically the story of an all powerful super hero triumphing over mental illness(and also magic stuff!)?
