Climbing the First Ascent of a line that @kevin__capps and I bolted (Kevin sent right after me so we share the FA). I’m proud of this line we found; it has some really unique features. The climb remains sustained and steep the whole way, and while it was a beast to bolt, I think it is the best one we have developed here in Breaks, VA, yet!
We decided to name it “Breaking the Shield” 🛡 because there is an obvious shield looking rock formation midway up the climb that provides some challenging sequences. Also while rappelling, Kevin got hit with a huge rock from the top on his left arm, where a shield would be worn. For me, “Breaking the Shield” resonates as well, as I break ground into this new side of climbing- route development. This line is in the 5.13 range. We will log it on Mountain Project!
