Yesterday, I was having a complete crapstorm of a morning. The kids were being difficult and didn’t even want to get of bed. Then I totally snapped when the kids weren't moving fast enough to brush their teeth and get out the door on time for the bus. We ran down the street as fast as we could and miracle of miracles, arrived while the bus was still at the light, right before crossing to our stop. We did a very brief celebration and then the bus, for no apparent reason whatsoever, just drove right past us without stopping. I wove my hands like a crazy person, started screaming "STOP!!!!" (as one does) and ran out after it onto the street. I couldn't run down the street to catch up, because I had two little kids back on the sidewalk. Then I saw an empty cab driving behind the bus and shot my hand up screaming "TAXI!!!" The taxi drove right by me too. So I stomped back to the bus stop in defeat, slumped onto the bench and said, "I GIVE UP." Harlow walked over and sat down next to me. "Mom? Have you ever heard of the word PERSIST?" I looked at her. "You know, like the book 'She Persisted.'" 😂😂😂 “Yes, Harlow I have heard of that word." I bet Chelsea Clinton can't wait to ad an addendum right after Harriet Tubman and Sonia Sotomayor: “Ilana Wiles was a mom, with tired, whiny kids who didn’t listen and a bus driver who threatened her ability to get to school on time. But SHE PERSISTED.”

First, I was going to come here and thank you for sharing her pictures because they literally lift me up whenever I see them. She’s magic that way. BUT, then I read your story and now I must thank you for sharing that. For me, but also for all the other women I work with who think they’re messing it all up largely because they’re house doesn’t look like the shiny families they see on IG. Yours is a shiny family on IG, but you’ve always been so honest about the tough stuff too and I’m not sure you know how valuable that is to so many. Parenting is hard and also full of tremendous moments of grace. Thank you for sharing both. Here’s to the rest of your week filled with responsive bus drivers and taxis waiting right on the curb. ?

Monday: AJ’s bus driver forgot she was on the bus and skipped her afternoon drop off (she’s only 3). I had to spend 1.5 hours tracking her midday until she arrived from bus of school 1 to daycare. Wednesday: she woke up with croup and I missed most of a workday until I had to mad dash to leading a meeting of parents and students at 6pm an hour away. So yea what is this wk? Thanks for teaching me parenting is never ending

We woke up late (20 minutes before we had to leave for school) and I feel like my daughter always gets ready quicker when that happens ?????♀️ even though my heart is pumping and I am a total hot mess ??????

That bus thing happened to me in winter..on the first morning of my new job... Long story short I sprinted to catch it, lost my badge in the process (?), and was almost late to my very first day. I cried...
