At the age of 28 my dream finally came true. Every day on set I didn’t pick his brain I ATE IT! I was his director but to say I learned from him would be an understatement. I learned everything I know about action filmmaking from Jackie! The original idea was to combine the modern day Harold Lloyd, Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin in a buddy cop Genre with a multi cultural cast. In 1998 Rush Hour broke many records being the biggest opening EVER in the history of New Line Cinema, the biggest opening in September in any Genre and the biggest Comedy opening in history! Behind Jackie is legendary Stuntman, stunt coordinator and Second Unit Director Terry Leonard. Terry was a cowboy and I knew that I needed someone that Jackie would admire if he was going to cooperate with following the rules and on set regulations of a Hollywood set with the STAR doing his own stunts. Terry was the man for the job. He was a real cowboy having worked with John Ford on #Stagecoach when stunts were done for real without VFX enhancements. I knew Jackie would appreciate and respect Terry’s old school approach. Jackie at heart is a stuntman’s stuntman and so I knew he would respond to Terry who had to assess the risk factors and execute when it came to Jackie risking his life and doing his own stunts! Jackie had a horrible experience on the film #CannonBallRun and my understanding of his frustrations on that film helped me create an environment on Rush Hour that allowed for Jackie to have his own team for creativity, the JC Stunt Team, but also made safety a priority which isn’t always the case in Hong Kong where insurance and rules don’t apply to Jackie Chan movies.」4月8日 17時46分 - brettrat
