For far too long, our country has treated its indigenous music as something unworthy of value because it was born on plantations & reared in jook joints. But the power that it possesses is mighty & CANNOT be denied. On Friday, we kicked off the #SoundtrackOfAmerica series at @theshedny to celebrate that power & we are going to continue tonight, for the rest of the week…& beyond. America is one of the only countries without a Minister of Culture & it SHOWS. The heartbeat of American music IS African-American music, & that is exactly why we’ve created this series.
