I mainly like to only use guards .5 to 2. Anything above that, I love clipper over comb. I typically always use guards when I use clipper over comb and what guard depends on what part of the blending zone I’m in..I use that guard size to blend up to next area. Of course you can follow the guard system and work up from 2 to 3 and 3 to 4...or clipper over comb.
Both methods work but you’ll know over time which feels more comfortable for you. Don’t ever think there’s only one way of doing it. Try different methods to find the one you understand best because that method will be your fastest. .
