Starting today, the Sultan of Brunei will make it legal to stone people to death for being GAY. Before you drop your jaw, keep in mind we aren’t THAT far ahead of their intolerance, having just recently realized, as a nation, that homosexual marriage should be just as legal as straight marriage. It’s still not awesome to be gay everywhere in the world, no matter how progressive the country. Sometimes it’s so maddening how slowly the world evolves when it comes to human rights... but it does evolve. And society gets to the right place through spreading messages and open mindedness and reinforcing over and over than we are all humans. Gay rights are human rights. It’s important that we stand up for what’s right especially when it isn’t an infringement on our/your/my own immediate rights. I’m not gay and I don’t live in Brunei. There is little I can do but shake my head. However the Sultan owns these hotels and we can choose not to stay at them. Two are right here in my hometown.
