Tabichi teaches at a school in Pwani Village which has only one computer, poor internet, and a student / teacher ratio of 58:1. Tabichi’s students face many challenges, ranging from food scarcity to drug abuse, and much more. After witnessing so much severe need first hand, he began to give away 80% of his monthly income to help his students with their academics & learning tools. His donations have lead to 2x enrollment and more of his students graduating and going to college. Through these accomplishments, Tabichi was awarded the Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize this past Sunday! When awarded with this title, he stated “ The prize does not recognize me, but recognizes this great continent’s young people.” Cheers to you, Peter Tabichi!
