Decided just off the plane to cab from Brooklyn to Harlem to visit my then ex boyfriend but realised when I arrived I didn’t have his apt number (Extortionately priced cab also, scenic route). Lost in a city without a phone, any American dollars or an address - excellent. After wandering aimlessly asking for directions (who does that anymore??) I was offered a personal escort to the underground from a lady’s son who owned a bodega (some law and order shit), I politely declined. I’d given up on the day and after trying a few times to buy a train ticket (panicked by this point) I see a guy side hustle onto the platform through a gate in front of me. I am not saying fare evasion is a thing, but it was getting late and it couldn’t get worse 🤷🏼‍♀️ little did I know he was an angry member of the cities ticketing police (LOL) In hindsight I laugh, but realistically I cried on most of the train ride home. Back at the hostel and the girl underneath my bunk decides it’s a perfect time to bring company home, brilllliant. 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Despite, I fell in love w the city from that day on. As I’m reminiscing I realised I’ve been around the world and back again since, but never there. 8 years later, and tomorrow we’re off again on the search for songs 🍎 FIRST STOP, NY.
