Was so happy I got to spend part of a beautiful morning with my friend #JohnMatsen cleaning algae and hatched herring eggs off the nets in #FalseCreek to benefit the herring population. John has been the co chair and Herring Recovery Coordinator of the #SquamishStreamkeepers since 2006. He and his team have helped grow the once diminishing herring population by providing them with safe spawning spaces. Unsurprisingly the creosote covered pylons in the wharf are toxic to the eggs. To help facilitate spawning John and his team have placed over 150 nets in the wharf giving the herring a non toxic place to lay their eggs. Where there are herring the #salmon, #seals and #orcas are not far behind. John and his team are heroes. #ILoveTheOcean #ocean
