AD | Are you as big of a Facebook fan as me? I’ve been using it since it began and love it because it keeps me connected with friends, helps me find like minded people (oh man I love a good group) and also I find all the cute little craft fairs going on in my area on the events pages.
.
That being said, I know there are some people who don’t feel as positive and Facebook know that too.
.
I’ve been asked to help this by attending a day at Facebook to put your questions, queries and concerns to them. Whether it’s around trust with personal data, wellbeing, fake news or content moderation, Facebook knows these are tough issues facing the whole industry and they really want to tackle them head on.
.
I’m really excited to be involved in this way because as you know, I’m passionate about this industry and passionate about people loving it as much as I do.
.
Keep an eye out on my socials for the next few weeks because soon I’ll have a place for you to ask questions and give me your feedback (and please be honest) and I’ll let you know the outcomes too! So glad to be working on such a positive, caring project. Hurrah for good eggs eh?
.
PS - Have you ever seen a woman try to look so casually glam with a phone ? SURELY NOT?! Ahahahahaha!

I seem to be in the minority. I really enjoy Facebook. I moved away from my family and friends from London to rural Cambridgeshire (to be with my lovely husband) and it’s helped me stay in touch with old friends and be a really easy platform to make new friends. I find it easier to add someone on Facebook than swap numbers for example. I like having albums of photos rather than just 10 per post on insta. It helps me with birthdays, local events, finding local businesses, helping my husbands business (a local electrician) - most of his work comes through Facebook recommendations in very local village groups. Our local Ely, Cambridgeshire based community has a lot of presence on Facebook helped a lot by @spottedinely - lots of positive local news, ransom acts of kindness, support local community activities. I also love the extra Louise @louisepentland content, and think seeing Facebook as an extra video platform for creators is great as I only go on YouTube to watch Louise!

Thank you Louise! My biggest question to Facebook is why they took nearly two weeks to say ANYTHING about the fact that they hosted 17 minutes of massacre on their livestream, and that it took them 4 hours to take it down, let alone actually apologise. And what they plan to do about actually taking responsibility for their platform stopping this kind of atrocity have an audience. It is unacceptable that the video wasn’t stopped, and we aren’t interested in their thoughts and prayers - that may be how they respond to terrorist attacks in the USA but in NZ we demand action. I know it’s a bold one for you to go in there with Louise, but I feel like you have the compassion and courage to do so. ❤️

This is sooo good, in my day job (I just do Living Thrifty for fun to help other people live well without spending a lot of money) I'm a PhD researcher at a university into digital and social media and how it can be used for health interventions and an ongoing concern from researchers is the lack of transparency from Facebook so I will be following this with interest 😊 thanks for being a spokesperson and spreading the word x

@sophiecparish agreed, we did an experiment in my classroom where we discussed a randomly selected product that no one in the class had searched for on google and a crazy number of students had ads for that product pop up before the end of the day. We noticed pretty much a direct correlation between the students who got the ads and those who had “always listening” activated on their phones. Creepy

I feel uncomfortable with the use of Facebook livestream by the gunman here in NZ two weeks ago. I have definitely not used Facebook as much since then as I don’t understand how the video was able to stream for 17 minutes before it got shut down. I want to know how Facebook will use this to improve their live streaming capabilities so others don’t do what he did
