Being part of #canadareads this year has been thrilling and challenging. Art is so subjective and it’s tough to be the judge of someone else sensibility but the mental gymnastic of debating is fun!

cutechameleon I think about this point a lot and not to act so bold, but being unknown gives me hope! Sometimes when i feel like “I’m failing” something.. or disappointed in what I’ve created I think back to people like Emily Dickinson or Shakespeare. Back in the day, they probably never would have expected their works to be so important and treasured to other people. So then I keep doing what I’m doing and I think “they didn’t give up their dreams, neither should I. If I’m proud of what I’ve made and it gives me purpose and fills me, then that’s all I could ever need.”

jtiberius I think people's art is deemed more vulued if it's seen as a solid body of work because it is finished. Even TV series are better regarded when they end because an ending let's you see it from all angles and gives you a chance to make sense of it. Hard to do if something new can come out next month and you reevaluate again.

fj_pinto All about how we define success ... if $ is the only thing one values, the answer is a pretty narrow “yes”. But we are 360 degree creatures and personal, psychological, creative, social and spiritual success are all uniquely valuable in their own way ! 🔥

katieditschun I think we do define success improperly in our society. If only we could live as artists on a truer meaning of success... Congrats on Canada Reads. We all need to do more reading! 📚
