Funny Face is a 1957 romantic comedy that’s nominally about a May-December romance but is really about a love affair with fashion (specifically between Audrey Hepburn and Givenchy). Hepburn is Jo Stockton, a serious bookworm discovered by photographer Dick Avery, a character played by Fred Astaire and based on Richard Avedon, who falls for Jo’s “character, spirit, and intelligence” as revealed through his lens. In the course of the film, Jo becomes a swan. Bella Hadid, another doe-eyed leading lady, undertakes a similar transformation for Vogue’s exclusive digital cover.
In a strapless red dress, made of an adaptable technical crepe, designed by @givenchyofficial’s Clare Waight Keller, and that dream of a marabou hat by Christelle Kocher of @koche, it’s no wonder that a vibrant, happy Hadid exudes such joie de vivre.
