We lost the young matriarch of our newsroom yesterday - Maureen Heaton. She was the first person who greeted me and took me to my desk in July 2005. For years, I never went on a shoot without going over my interview questions with Maureen. She was sharp, she knew everything about entertainment news, and I felt confident going into a conversation knowing that Maureen briefed me. Whenever there was a high speed chase, our newsroom stopped everything; I would toss it over to Maureen for a fake live report, and she always nailed it. When Anna Nicole Smith died, Maureen would call me everyday and asked how I was doing... I was gone over a month and was ready to come home, she kept me sane. 87% of the time she didn’t like my wardrobe, I stopped wearing velvet jackets bc of Maureen. She was always the first one in the office and the last to leave. G and I were in tears last night talking about what a loss this is. It doesn’t seem real and I keep hoping I’ll walk by her desk on Monday and we’ll talk about Tom Brady. Our family is broken without you. I’m so glad you were in my life. She didn’t like being on camera but I convinced her to shoot this bit for my instagram. These are the memories I’ll keep replaying. Please say a prayer for the Heaton family and our staff. 🙏🏻
