Starting in 1995, Tina Guillory began designing clothing that channels her personal mantra: “we work to live, not live to work”. I consider this line of thought vital, particularly in the context of the high speed environment of the fashion industry, which high street brands bend over backwards to accommodate. In conversation with @guilloryguillorybe, of Carrier Company, it’s clear that they are fighting the fast fashion world through the use of sustainable materials, “such as jute, cotton, and linen from flax grown in Ireland, where no part of the plant goes to waste”. As well as fully committing to a slow fashion ethos, Carrier Company is remarkably advanced in its company policies; they encourage their workers to work in a way that suits their lives, manufacturing much of their collection within a 10 mile radius of the farmhouse headquarters, and creating unisex clothing that works for everyone. Their pieces are structured, simultaneously delicate, refined, and of an unparalleled quality. Speaking to the brand, it became clear to me that they are passionate about providing their customers with beautiful, conscious clothing for a lifetime. Writing about their pieces almost makes me sad that winter is coming to end; I’m running out of days to wear the warmest, most versatile knit I own (fisherman’s rollneck, pictured).
