BEWARE, THIS IS TOXIC FOR YOUR BIRDS!
Some foods are particularly dangerous for parrots and parakeets. Chocolate and avocado for example. But what makes them "killers"? There are a number of things that your birds should never get into their beak. Even if they like to eat these things - chocolate, avocado and alcohol are taboo for our winged friends, because they can be life-threatening for them.

Chocolate forbidden

The pure, dark version in particular contains a lot of theobromine. This substance has been shown to cause bleeding in the respiratory tract and even cardiac arrest in parrots. Death can follow soon and so far no treatment method has been found. The cheaper types of chocolate often contain less theobromine and it is assumed that they can be tolerated better by parrots. However, it has also been proven that the intake of a small amount of theobromine will eventually damage the blood vessels. Eating chocolate has a cumulative effect; this means that theobromine accumulates in the body and the life expectancy of the birds is likely to decrease drastically.

Do not feed avocado

Research has shown that many bird species, including parrots, can die after taking a small portion of avocado. Both pecking at the kernel and flesh can have fatal consequences. The pit alone is already deadly. The toxic substance in avocados is persine, although not all types of avocados seem to be equally toxic. Yet the risk of death or permanent damage to parrots and parakeets is so great that you simply never have to feed avocados. Symptoms of persin poisoning include respiratory distress and increased heart rate. The bird will in most cases die within 12 to 29 hours after ingestion. And there is no antidote!

Wine is taboo

Alcohol is also toxic to parrots. It is a poison that can cause a sharp rise in blood pressure, resulting in death. A small sip of beer is as much a parrot as several glasses of spirits for a person. However, people can tolerate this particularly well, parrots absolutely not. Birds that receive small alcoholic "snacks" from their owners soon develop chronic liver problems, increased blood pressure and run a considerably increased risk of heart attack
