About 1,110 motorists were stranded in Colorado as a blistering winter storm — a “bomb cyclone” — unleashed hurricane-force winds and blizzard conditions. The weather was so severe from Fort Collins to Colorado Springs that some law enforcement officers were forced to abandon their vehicles and seek shelter instead of responding to the high volume of motor vehicle accidents, officials said. “We are at the point where we are rescuing rescuers out there,” said one county manager.
