Amika George is a 19 year old student who started the campaign @freeperiods from her bedroom 2 years ago. Fast forward to now & the campaign has just won a landmark battle to end period poverty across the UK.
.
Menstruation is often called the “last great taboo” in women's sport - and studies have shown that access to sanitary products is a major barrier to female participation from a young age. "There’s no need for periods to be a barrier to girls getting involved in sport. When we live in a society where everyone’s really open about them and embraces them as a really normal and natural process, girls will feel less embarrassed of participating in sports." - @amikageorge ⚽ ? ? ⚾
.
This week the government announce their pledge to provide free menstrual products in all secondary schools across England in response to Amika's activism - and the 271,000 people who signed her petition.

Head over to @freeperiods to find out where our female focus shifts next...
