China’s decision to no longer import the world’s recycled waste has left municipalities and waste companies from Australia to the U.S. scrambling for alternatives. In the year since the Chinese ban was implemented, millions of tons of plastics and other recyclables have piled at export facilities, been sent to incinerators, or ended up in landfills. In England, more than half-a-million more tons of plastics and other household trash were burned last year, while communities across the U.S. curtailed collections or halted their recycling programs entirely. But experts say the crisis triggered by China’s ban could have an upside if it leads to better solutions for managing the world’s waste.

Hey Leo! I was thinking ... If there was a movie that showed either a protagonist practicing zero waste habits, or maybe a world in the near future suffering from climate change... Something that allows moviegoers to witness that these changes CAN be done, or if they're not, this is the consequence. But I don't know how to do that. I just know how to write about plastic. If only there was an influential actor with big green heart I could reach out to. Hmm, maybe someone I've had a crush on since I was 11? Hint hint. 😘 But seriously, how can we reach the people who don't already follow these pages? The ones who are taught in American schools that climate change is a hoax, like my hometown - Madison

How about people just start reducing buying plastic and watch what they bring in their homes, cook home made meals, limit decor for the home, buy less toys for the kids, be satisfied and not need to get the newest electronics made every year, thrift your clothes rather than buy new and realize you don't need to have everything. I know I can try doing this.

@leonardodicaprio how come no one has suggested getting rid of landfills by using active volcanoes? I don’t know the science or logistics but I think we could do away with the trash problem by letting lava do the work for us. Maybe? Idk just an thought I had.

More and more countries should promote recycling of plastic and other wastes. Governments should promote and facilitate the local players. We at thermowaste solutions, believe that environmentalists and entrepreneurs should think global and act local.
