On this #internationalwomensday I suggest seeing, and reading, the story behind the paintings and life of #hilmaafklint now at @グッゲンハイム美術館 her art was so ahead of her time that she hid it. She would just make still life paintings because that’s what was accepted and expected from a women. These pieces where hid in her basement, are never before seen and they are incredible . She was said to have secret meetings with her girlfriends, called The Five, and have seances to contact the dead. She was “told by a sprit” to make these paintings for The Temple. She would automatically draw (which is just drawing without thought) after these meetings. You can see some of her drawings are all very large circular drawings. To then witness her paintings in a CIRCULAR museum like the Guggenheim , which is a TEMPLE for art, truly takes your breath away. Makes you think how many times have you had to dim your light, lower your voice, speak softer or shrink yourself to appease the powers that be?
