Interesting fact: Tommy was on the wrong side of what was probably the first documented episode of ‘fake news’ when a fake viral email was circulated in December 1998 which stated that Tommy made racist statements during an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Despite denials by both Hilfiger and @オプラ・ウィンフリー, the false rumor continued to spread. It didn’t seem to impact on Tommy’s bottom dollar though, as their revenue doubled from $1 billion to $2 billion during that same period. ???
