30 years ago today, this album came out, Saved my life, & gave me direction. During its 25th anniversary a bunch of millennials head scratched and for the life of them couldn’t get it, much to the amusement of the journalists giving them non contextualized listens with NO background history whatsoever. Of course beat downs were handed in the comments. I took it a step further & took a teaching position at NYU because —-well how else we gonna learn? I know this is a dark time for @WeAreDeLaSouls catalogue but we should still acknowledge its genius.

kongbuiltt Folks - please wake up and watch Hip-Hop Evolution. De La as one of many at the forefront of the Native Tongues movement. This is truly a remarkable time of innovation and expression. No genre, nor era had this this caliper of musicians, talent, and love for culture. Hip-Hop Evolution is binge worthy and not until the latter of the episodes does it pin how De La and others like Tribe were on another level!

b_styles_the_anonymous_nobody Ground breaking album. The first of its kind in Hip Hop. Regular dudes from the neighborhood but not doing regular hood stuff. It made it cool to be from the hood and to be different. Respect ✊🏾
