When I was about 2yrs old, I was walking down the street in my hometown of Freiburg, Germany, holding my mother’s hand. As we passed the local Colombi Hotel, a tall black man stepped onto the sidewalk. At that time, I only saw my father sporadically, so when I spotted this man, this singular brown face, I let out a loud “Daddy!” and ran over to him. He turned & picked me up with a big smile on his face and knew instinctively what was happening. He was so gracious and kind and respectful to my mom. Over 40 yrs have passed and as a father now I will cherish this moment forever.
Every little boy can use a hug like this one.
