Here is an essay which I wrote on the topic of hijab: I’m an Arab, Muslim woman and I have to tell you that hijab is never a part of our feminist movement. Hijab literally means a barrier in Arabic. Taking off the hijab and burning it are symbolic feminist acts of Arab feminists. Women in Iran post their pictures on Facebook with no hijab as an indicator of resistance against the compulsory hijab. Saudi women created a hashtag on twitter called #النقاب_تحت_رجلي which means Niqab ( face mask) is under my feet 🦶. The very first symbolic act of the first Arab feminist “Huda Sharawi” was taking off her hijab as a sign of liberation and dignity and because of Huda Sharawi women got the the right to vote and access education. An Egyptian feminist Dr @nawalalsaadawiofficial wrote many books on women emancipation. She stated in one of her interviews, “ hijab is something against morality why do women wear hijab but not men? What’s wrong with women heads? A woman’s head is her honor it’s not a shameful thing that has to be covered forever” This is the real feminism. Even those women who claim they chose to wear the hijab by themselves which is rare they wear the headscarf because of reasons
1- they are afraid of god’s punishment; they believe they will be burned in hell for exposing their hair.
2- They got brainwashed and mentally abused by men who convinced them that hijab represents modesty and morality and no one will harass her if she wears a headscarf which is a lie obviously because ( I wear a headscarf because I’m forced culturally and I face harassment)
3- they believe it’s a religious obligation, so it’s not a choice when someone is obligated to do something, it’s literally an emotional abuse.

As a Muslim, Arab woman, I find hijab is oppressive and it’s against our Arab feminist movement . Many girls are forced to wear it. In Iran, a lawyer got arrested and sentenced to 38 years in prison with 100 lashes for simply not wearing hijab. Her name is #nasrinsotoudeh . Shame on you and shame on @Nike

The hijab is a man made device to mark a claim to a woman and help the insecure men not be worried she will leave him if another man tempts her when he sees her beauty
