This week's #RoleModelMonday is 25-year-old Oscar winner Rayka Zehtabchi, the first Iranian-American woman to receive an honor for Best Documentary Short Subject. Her 25-minute documentary speaks to the cultural stigma of menstruation in places where most women lack access to menstrual products and as a result, often drop out of school because of the shame. Zehtabchi was moved to action when she heard about a group of high school activists who were raising money to send a sanitary pad machine to a village in India. Using her education from film school and a genuine passion for change, her short documentary has screened worldwide at established film festivals, winning multiple awards and urging important conversation. Way to go Rayka! Keep up the good work!
